Frequently asked questions.
Consultations
What is a consultation?
It’s a brief (10-20 minute) phone call with me before we actually meet for therapy to determine if we’re a good fit for therapy.
Why should I do a consultation?
The therapeutic relationship is an important element of therapy. During a consultation, you’ll get a sense of whether you feel comfortable with me and with our conversation. It’s a chance to determine if you can see yourself speaking with me about things that are important or difficult.
Can I do a video consultation?
I generally do consultations over the phone, but I’m happy to do a video call if that is your preference!
What can I expect from you (the therapist) during a consultation?
I use a consultation to gather some information about you, so I can establish whether I am the appropriate person to help you. I may ask you questions like:

Have you been in therapy before?
What are you looking for in a therapist?
What has worked in the past, and what hasn’t?
What does a session with me generally look like?
I recommend taking a little time to think about these before we speak. If you don’t fully know the answer to any questions, don’t worry, we can work together to figure it out!
Should I ask questions during a consultation?
I encourage you to ask about anything you’re curious about! You’ll find some information about my style of practice on this site, but feel free to ask me more about this or anything else!
What happens after the consultation?
If you feel confident that you’d like to move forward with therapy together, we can schedule our first session at the end of the consultation. If you’d like some time to think about it, you can get back to me and we’ll schedule our first session the
